D.LIGHT - BEST BRANDS Awarded Solar Home Systems Project in Palawan
The joint venture of BEST BRANDS and D.LIGHT was recently awarded the project contract to supply 27,200 sets of solar home systems by the Provincial Government of Palawan, Republic of the Philippines.
The Energy Development Program (EDP) under the Office of the Governor has identified qualified beneficiaries of the project, which are isolated households in remote off-grid areas in the province. The project is one of the key components of the Palawan Island Power Development Plan 2014-2035 (PIPDP) in line with the total electrification of the province. Under the project, each household-beneficiary will receive one set of solar home system free of charge since the fund allocated for the purpose is derived from Palawan's share from the National Wealth and is governed by the provisions of R.A. 7160, also known as The Local Government Code of 1991.
Last May 19 2016 the official turn-over of 27,200 sets of solar home system amounting to Php 78.8 Million was held at the Provincial Capitol of Palawan with Governor Jose Ch. Alvarez and Best Brands President Angelo Valenton presiding over the handover ceremony.
"Unahin muna natin ang mga IPs lalo na 'yong sa mga isla. Sila talaga ang mas nangangailangan. (We will prioritize the Indigenous People, especially those living in the islands. They need these the most.)" said Governor Alvarez during the ceremony.
For his part, Valenton said "This is truly a significant and meaningful project of the province as it not only aims to bring light to communities living off the grid but it delivers a way towards an improving quality of life. It is a privilege to be part of this effort and we certainly can not disappoint."
The solar home system selected was D.LIGHT™ D20 which was assessed to be the most compliant and capable system in terms of specifications, performance, track record and affordability.
