In a significant stride toward improving access to clean water in remote communities, Barangay Poropandan in Matnog, Sorsogon, has been selected as one of the beneficiaries of POWER 4 ALL’s clean water filtration system for Small Island Communities project. This initiative, in collaboration with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), aims to address the pressing water scarcity challenges faced by isolated barangays.
For years, residents of Brgy. Poropandan struggled with limited access to potable water. According to Ms. Irene, a dedicated Barangay Health Worker, the community often had to travel to the town proper of Matnog, incurring transportation costs of approximately ₱150—a substantial amount for many families. When funds were insufficient, residents resorted to crossing to neighboring islands to collect spring water, which they would then boil to make it safe for consumption.
The introduction of the filtration systems project has been transformative for the barangay. Ms. Irene expressed profound gratitude to DENR and POWER 4 ALL for selecting their community among many others in need. The project not only eases the daily burden of water collection but also significantly improves the overall health and well-being of residents.
POWER 4 ALL is renowned for its commitment to providing innovative solutions for clean power and water, particularly in underserved areas. Its initiatives span various regions, uplifting communities by addressing fundamental needs through sustainable technologies.
The successful implementation of the filtration system in Brgy. Poropandan stands as a testament to the positive impact that collaborative efforts between government agencies and private organizations can have in fostering community development and resilience.
