The Light Up Pilipinas program of One Meralco Foundation, in collaboration with the Philippine Marine Corps' Marine Battalion Landing Team-9 (MBLT-9) and Power 4 All, provided solar torches to over 100 families, including those belonging to the indigenous Tagbanua tribe, in Sitio Bayatao and Sitio Kayasan, Barangay Tagabinet, Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
One of the oldest ethnic communities in the Philippines, the Tagbanua tribe, lives close to the Puerto Princesa Underground River, which is part of their ancient territory and one of the seven new wonders of the world as well as a World Heritage site. Even though the tribe is well-known, their activities are restricted because the location is still in the dark, especially at night.
Families can take use of these solar-powered torches to increase productivity at home. They can use it to light their path after dark when they go outside as well.
Additionally, One Meralco Foundation provided d.light T200 spotlight to the Philippine Marine Corps' Marine Battalion Landing Team-9 (MBLT9), which is in charge of guarding the islets that are part of the Kalayaan Island Group. They can better secure, monitor, and carry out their civil operation tasks by using these solar lamps around the perimeter of the region.
These solar lights provide much needed access to clean power and as well as many other benefits that affect security, livelihood, education, disaster response ad many more. Thank you to One Meraclo Foundation for their advocacy to #SpreadTheLight
