Manila Water Powers the Biggest Solar Plant Installations in a Water Utility Company in the Philippines

A step towards sustainable energy took place today with the ceremonial switch-on of Manila Water's 2.5MWp Solar PV Power Plants at the San Juan Pumping Station in Mandaluyong City. The event was attended by key players in the energy and water sectors, including representatives from Ditrolic Energy, Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System, and the Department of Energy.
 
The first phase of the solar project, which has a consolidated capacity of 2.5 MWp spans across three critical facilities:
 
  • San Juan Pumping Station – 1 MWp
  • Cardona Water Treatment Plant – 1 MWp
  • East La Mesa Water Treatment Plant – 0.5 MWp

Together, these installations will help reduce approximately 2,576 tons of CO2 emissions annually, contributing to Manila Water's ongoing efforts to reduce its environmental impact.

The ceremonial event was graced by notable leaders in the water and energy sectors, including Mr. Jocot De Dios, President & CEO of Manila Water, and Mr. Arnold Jether Mortera, its East Zone Chief Operating Officer. The ceremony was also attended by Mr. Tham Chee Aun, CEO of Ditrolic Energy, Justice Elpidio Vega, Chairman of the Metropolitan Waterworks and Sewerage System (MWSS), and Asec. Mylene Capongcol of the Department of Energy.

Asec. Capongcol shared her appreciation of the initiatives coming from the retail supply sector, noting that, “The Department of Energy is happy that there are many initiatives from our retail supply sector. The consumers are now doing their own initiative to ensure a sustainable supply of energy needs.”

In his address, Justice Elpidio Vega  commended the synergy between the public and private sectors, emphasizing the importance of renewable energy solutions in addressing the nation’s energy needs.  

As Manila Water continues to advance its solar energy initiatives, the company looks forward to further advancing energy independence and environmental sustainability.
