NSFA, Panacan, Davao City – Peace partners worked with the Eastern Mindanao Command (Eastmincom) in ensuring equitable access to education in far-flung areas and Indigenous People’s (IPs) communities during the “new normal” by providing Mission 1200 Portable Power Station to several schools in Talaingod, Davao Del Norte where access to electricity remains a challenge.
Teachers from five IP community schools in conflict-strickened Talaingod namely Central Baguan Elementary School, Ibugay Lamburan Elementary School, KM12 Primary School, Malapanit Elementary School, Nasilaban Integrated School received the new portable power station sets during a turn-over ceremony held at the Eastmincom Headquarters on August 11, 2020.
The M1200 Power Station were donated by the Philip Morris and Fortune Tobacco Corporation (PMFTC) and Jaime V. Ongpin Foundation, Inc. through Eastmincom; Mayor Johnnie A. Libayao of Talaingod; Lt. Col. Norman E. Valdez, Commanding Officer of 56th Infantry Battalion; and Talaingod DepEd District Supervisor Justiniano D. Cubar.
The portable power station is expected to help the IP communities adapt to the new normal practices being imposed by the government, particularly the Department of Education (DepEd), to secure the safety of students from the COVID-19 infection in preparation for the opening of classes this year.
