Paglaum Multi-Purpose Cooperative (PMPC) held a General Assembly in Pagadian, Zamboanga Del Sur in the Philippines last April 13, 2016 attended by approximately 1,200 members. During the assembly, the PMPC Renewable Energy Program or PREP had been presented featuring D.LIGHT Solar compact systems as solutions to rotating brown-outs in this key province of Mindanao.
Josell Valenton of Best Brands, Inc. together with Lizette Asumbrado and Engr. Ronelito Limbo of PMPC, provided an orientation on PREP, which aims to enable the provision of sustainable energy products to micro and small business through microfinance-based energy products. The program focuses on the potential of microfinance mechanisms to provide clean energy solutions in regions with poor power infrastructure, thereby achieving triple bottom lines. Renewable energy is an essential part of the country's low emissions development strategy and is vital to addressing the challenges of climate change, energy security, and access to energy. PREP is not just helping people to get sustainable energy products but it also promotes the importance of access to renewable energy to the target communities and the environment.
Many of the members present were mothers and housewives who expressed their delight and satisfaction with D.LIGHT Solar products. Among the appreciated factors were the products durability, affordability and excellent performance. A participant said she will use D.LIGHT for her poultry business, others mentioned that these systems would be very valuable for when installed in their homes because Mindanao suffers from frequent power outages.
