Super typhoon Lawin slammed into Northern Luzon last October 20, 2016 and five areas were placed under storm signal number 5, the highest level. Typhoon Lawin has been described as a monster storm like Yolanda but with a different set of dangers, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA).
Isabella was one of the provinces badly affected by the typhoon. Several houses were damaged and several areas lost electricity due to the destruction of electric posts and cables.
Last January 6, 2017 One Million Lights donated D.LIGHT solar lamps which were distributed with the help of ASKI Foundation to the municipality of Tumauini, Isabella.
One of the beneficiaries of was Mrs. Fredelita Felicitas, 55 yrs. Old, and a resident of Antagan 1st , Tumauini, Isabela. She has a sari-sari store business. Aside from being busy managing her business, she also taking care of her daughter who undergoes medication due to scoliosis. That is why she was very happy when she received a D.LIGHT solar lamp. After the typhoon Lawin, access of electricity was totally cut off in their barrio in during that time they used a kerosene lantern which posed dangers to health and safety. Her daughter would complain about her chest because of the smoke that comes from the kerosene lamp they use. When they used D.LIGHT solar lamp, it was a huge comfort to her daughter. It is safe and can be used overnight. It was also very handy and easy to charge.
Another beneficiary was Jerry Reanzo, 36 yrs. old and a member of ASKI, whose business is also a sari-sari store located at Brgy. Antagan 1st, Tumauini, Isabela. His wife is an OFW and they have four (4) children. Their barrio was one of the most affected areas in the municipality during Typhoon Lawin. Transmission lines were truncated as well as interrupted cables. It took two (2) couple of months before they restore their electricity. He was very thankful for the D.LIGHT solar lamp he had received. He could use it at night especially when his children study. It was very useful, safe and handy.
