Lighting and Sanitation for Mangyan Communities

On April 6–7, 2026, Power 4 All, Inc. returned to Baclayan, Sta. Cruz, Occidental Mindoro to continue its mission of bringing light and opportunity to the Mangyan community through its CSR initiative, “Access to Light and Sanitation: Transforming Mangyan Lives.”

In partnership with Zonta International Club of Metro Ortigas, which donated resources to build communal rest rooms, POWER 4 ALL’s Impact Council donated and installed solar lighting units to provide safe, reliable, and sustainable access to light.

Life in the community is not easy. Families often walk long distances and cross steep terrain just to fetch water, and many shared spaces, especially sanitation areas, are not well-lit. This makes daily routines more difficult and, at times, unsafe, particularly for women and children.

To help address this, POWER 4 ALL’s Customer Support team, led by Angel Cobar,  Garry Gamba, John Loyd Aranilla, Jobert Orcajada, Raymond Dacocos and Jobert Orcajada performed assessment, restoration and testing of solar home systems to ensure the units were safe, fully functional, and ready for community use.

From these, five (5) units were successfully installed in key areas such as shower spaces, a water closet, walkways, and an outdoor handwashing area, as well as the chapel of the community. These small yet meaningful improvements have made these spaces safer, more accessible, and easier to use especially at night.

The activity was led by the Impact Council, headed by Mr. Adrian D. Cantos and Ms. Lady Ann Valenton. On the ground, Adrian personally performed the installation together with Church volunteers and some members of the community. Working side by side, they ensured that each unit was properly set up while also involving residents in the process, making the effort more collaborative and empowering.

Despite the challenges of transporting materials across rough terrain, the team successfully completed the installations over night. One of the most memorable moments was seeing the community’s reaction when the lights were turned on bringing not just brightness, but a big hope, sense of safety and comfort. Children watched with excitement, while families expressed their gratitude for something many of us often take for granted.

The impact was immediate. With better lighting in key areas, the community now experiences improved safety, hygiene, and ease in their daily routines. More than that, the initiative served as a reminder that access to light can change lives, it brings hope, security, and new possibilities.

Through efforts like this, POWER4ALL #power4good continues to live out its purpose: creating meaningful, lasting impact one community at a time.
